About Me
My name is Jonathan Boys. I was raised in Loveland, Ohio since I was 10 years old. I was always interested in art, photography, wood working, music, and electronics as a kid. During my senior year of high school I was asked by a teacher to help his students learn Adobe Photoshop. During the following two quarters I taught his students for him. That is what turned me on to graphic design.
College
I enrolled in the University of Cincinnati, the fall of 1995, where I studied Commercial Art (pre-press). I graduated in 1997 with an Associate of Applied Business.
Work History
Upon graduation, the same day, I entered the workforce. I worked for a sign company, then worked as a finish carpenter, then got into capitol purchasing for a large aggregate firm. After being laid off, shortly after 9/11, I went to work as a assistant produce buyer for a large grocery chain. I then went back into finish carpentry and then managed that company's custom cabinet shop. In 2006 when the economy and housing market started to take a nose dive in Cincinnati, I took a job with a family owned hardware store (I put myself through college working for them).
Gallery History
In the December of 2005 I met the owner of an art gallery called XOMA. By spring of 2006 I had volunteered to help him renovate a new experimental gallery space, called Syn Gallery.
On the first day of major construction he and I agreed that we shared the same vision for the space. I was asked to join the gallery board shortly after that. We continued to renovate the space while we held monthly shows.
In January of 2007 we changed the name of the space to Synthetica Gallery . I spent the 2007 season, serving as Co-Director, curating shows, maintaining the gallery, and running online and print marketing campaigns.
By the end of 2007 it became apparent that my wife and I would relocate to Oregon. Since September of 2008 I have worked as an art dealer representing 17 Oregon artists. I recently decided to remarket my business as West Coast Arts & Music Management.
Non-Profit Board of Directors History
As soon as we arrived here in March, I joined the Board of Directors for the Keizer Art Associationand began networking within the community. In December of 2008 I was elected by the membership to be the President of the Board of Directors for the 2009-2010 term. In August I resigned from the Board of Directors to further develope the Emerge Art Series that I started there. Since we relocated the Emerge show to Coffee House Cafe I have taken over the operation of it under the SYN503/WAMM banner head.
In the fall of 2010 I will be joining the Board of Directors for the Oregon PeaceWorks Foundation to help energize the organization from the top down.
I currently serve as the Visual Arts Director and Booking Manager for Coffee House Cafe in Salem, Oregon.
DESIGN
I have 13 years of design experience. The majority of my work has been with non profit organizations or not for profit events in the community. I spent two years as a custom cabinet designer as well. I have spent the past two years doing flyers for art events and music events in the Pacific North West. I have designed and developed several websites as well.

PHOTOGRAPHY
I have been taking photographs since 4th grade. Of course I am self taught, but I did take photography in college. Up until 2007 I shot everything with a standard manual 35mm SLR. But I got a Cannon SD600 point and shoot for Christmas from my wife. Many people "pooh-pooh" digital PAS's but the photograph in the background on this page was taken with one. It won "best in show" as recently as 2008. The judge owns an Oregon based camera chain. He remarked that the shot was incredible and he had to give me the prize when he saw what I took it with! I shoot what I like. Enjoy!
FINE WOODWORKING
I have been creating custom and fine woodworking pieces professionally since 2004. Previous to that I worked professionally at a finish carpenter starting in 1997. I have personally worked in over 400 homes as a finish carpenter. I have also used my woodworking skills to build merchandising displays such as the one below for McCabe Doit Center. Please check out the rest of my portfolio as well.
GENTLEMAN'S FACIAL
A truly pampering experience just for him. This facial addresses a man’s skin care needs, including the prevention of ingrown hairs and razor burn. We start with steam, and then gently exfoliate and extract clogged pores. This luxurious treatment ends with a relaxing massage of the face, shoulders, neck and upper back.

Art Dealer For a Different Generation
I have owned my business as an art dealer in Oregon since September 2008. The markets have completely changed in the past three years in the artworld. Gone are the days of big money buyers. Today the most spent on art is around $1000.00 and those are the big purchases.
Today my purpose is to develope a new client base of collectors. Everyday people who would love to have art but do not know how to approach it. I have stepped into a community with a small and highly conservative art scene and created a monthly community art show. Through this show I am not only able to scout talent, but I can also educate the public on how and why it is important to collect local works of art.
